Replacing The Garage Door Bottom Rubber Seal
While we do not recommend DIY solutions, there are ways to replace the rubber seal, but there is always the chance you can get it wrong.
So instead of going the DIY route, our experts will be there in no time to replace it for you.
But if you have the experience and tools, you can do the following:
- First, take the measurements of your garage door, measuring the thickness, width, and height. When buying a garage door stop with a built-in sealing lip, you will need them. Also, add some V-strip weather stripping with a tube of caulk and a small wood sealant if you have wooden doors. Finally, add a rubber threshold for an adequate seal.
- Remove the old bottom seal retainer to install the new one by prying it out using a flat screwdriver and cutting as needed. Next, clean the bottom section and cut your new rubber sealant using a knife. It will take some time to slide the rubber in. For wooden doors, the seals are nailed and will need a wood sealer and preparations beforehand.
- Next, install your threshold and the stop. Ensure to clean the concrete and let it dry, then install the threshold after you measure and mark where the door sits when down. Remove the old one and install a new stop if needed.
